The longer dirt remains on the surfaces of vehicle parts and on
the upholstery fabrics, the more difficult it will be to clean and
maintain them. If dirt is left uncleaned for a long time, it may no
longer be possible to remove it.
— Carry out a test run.
Overhaul work In
addition to the inspection work, other overhaul work must be
carried out on your vehicle depending on the conditions of use
and the vehicle's equipment, e.g. engine, gearbox or fluids and
operating means. These jobs are performed based on the time
elapsed and the distance traveled since the last service, or only
based on the time elapsed or the distance traveled.
Volkswagen recommends using original care products, which
are specially adapted to your vehicle.1) For specific questions
or for vehicle parts not mentioned, please contact a specialist
workshop.

The operation of the vehicle's safety equipment
could be impaired.
— Preferably use washing facilities without brushes.
— Clean the vehicle beforehand with water.
· Drive only if you have good visibility through
all crystals.
— When using a car wash, do not block the steering
column (depending on equipment) ÿ p. 155.
· Do not coat the windshield with water repellent
products available for glass. If visibility conditions
are unfavorable, more intense glare may occur.
— Before washing, always deactivate the Auto-Hold
function ÿ p. 186 and always switch off the
windscreen wiper ÿ p. 115 and the rain and light
sensor.
— Fold the door mirrors.
WARNING
— If the vehicle has decorative and protective sheets
tection, do not select a washing program with hot
wax.
Vehicle preservation products can be toxic and
dangerous. The use of products that are not
suitable for conservation or their improper use can
cause accidents, injuries, damage and serious
poisoning.
High pressure cleaning equipment
Observe the instructions of the manufacturer of the
high-pressure cleaner. Under no circumstances use
rotary nozzles ÿ .
· Store preservation products only in their tightly
closed original containers.
— Only use water at a temperature below +60 °C
(+140 °F).
· Observe the information on the package insert.
· Keep preservation products out of the reach of
children.
— If the windows are covered with snow or ice, do
not clean them with high-pressure cleaning
equipment.
· To avoid inhaling harmful vapours, apply
preservation products only outdoors or in well-
ventilated rooms.
— Move the water jet evenly keeping the nozzle at
a distance of at least 50 cm from the windows
and other parts of the vehicle.
· To preserve the vehicle, never use turpentine,
motor oil, malt remover or any other liquid
that evaporates quickly. They are toxic and
easily flammable.
— Do not direct the water jet for a long time at the
same point. To remove stubborn dirt, allow it to
soften.
— As far as possible, do not direct the water jet at
the rubber seals, e.g. For example, windows,
shiny trim, tyres, rubber hoses, soundproofing
material and other delicate parts of the vehicle,
such as door locks.
WARNING
Dirt containing aggressive components or solvents
can irreparably damage vehicle equipment, such as
seat padding or decorative parts, even if it is cleaned
quickly.
— Do not direct the water jet directly at the
sensors, camera lenses or decorative and
protective foils except briefly.
· Do not let dirt dry.
· Have stubborn stains cleaned by a specialized
workshop.
Hand wash
The gentlest way to wash the vehicle is always by
hand. However, in this case, certain aspects must
also be taken into account ÿ .
wash the vehicle
Also thoroughly wash the underbody of the vehicle
regularly to remove debris.
— Before washing the vehicle, soften the dirt with
plenty of water and rinse it well afterwards.
Automatic washing facilities
— Clean the vehicle with a soft sponge, mitt or
wash brush using light pressure. Start at the
roof and work from the top down.
Always take into account the instructions of the
person in charge of the car wash, especially if the
vehicle is fitted with accessories ÿ .
368
Maintenance
— Clean sponge, wash mitt, or lava brush
deep down frequently.
· Do not wash the vehicle in direct sunlight.
· In case of low outside temperatures, never direct
the water jet directly at the locks, the doors or the
tailgate. The locks and joints could freeze!
— Clean wheels, bottom rails and the like last with
a second sponge.
Use a vehicle shampoo only if the dirt is persistent.
WARNING
Conservation
Matt painted parts and surfaces, unpainted plastic
parts, and the glass in the headlamps and taillights
can be damaged if the vehicle is washed improperly.
A good conservation protects the paint of the
vehicle. When the water no longer beads visibly on
the clean paintwork, the vehicle should be re-
protected with a good wax preservative.
· Do not use rough or scratchy brushes.
Even if a wax preservative is applied regularly at
the automatic car wash, Volkswagen recommends
protecting the vehicle's paintwork with Genuine
Volkswagen Hard Wax (000 096 317) at least
twice a year.
Wash the vehicle only in places specially
provided for it. This prevents dirty water,
which may be contaminated with oil, from reaching
the sewage system.
Polished
Polishing will only be necessary when the vehicle's
paint has lost its shine and this cannot be restored
with conservation products.
Maintenance and cleaning of
the exterior of the vehicle
Do not polish matt painted surfaces! If the paint is
polished, the surface will be irreparably damaged.
Washing matt painted vehicles
If the vehicle has matt painted surfaces, wash it by
hand or in car wash facilities that use textile wash
elements without applying wax. If washing by hand,
first remove coarse dirt with plenty of water, then
clean the surface with a mild soapy solution.1)
Light dirt, such as grease stains or insect remains,
can be removed with a special cleaning product
for matt paint.

WARNING
After washing the vehicle, the braking ability
may be reduced and the braking distance may
increase because the brake discs and pads are
wet or even frozen in winter.
· Make a few stops with caution to “dry and
release the ice brakes”. Do not endanger other
road users in doing so!
WARNING
Improper vehicle washing can cause serious
damage to the vehicle!

Maintenance
Retrofitted devices that directly influence vehicle
control must bear the e -mark (European Union
approval mark) and be approved by Volkswagen for
the vehicle in question. These devices include e.g.
e.g. speed governors or electronically controlled
damping systems.
· After cleaning the seat belts, wait for them to dry
completely before winding them up.
WARNING
Improper care and cleaning of vehicle components
can affect the function of the vehicle's safety
equipment and cause serious injury.
Additional connected electrical devices, the
purpose of which is not to exercise direct control over
the vehicle, must bear the mark (manufacturer's
declaration of conformity in the European Union).
These devices include e.g. eg, refrigerators,
computers or fans.
· Clean and maintain vehicle parts only in
accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.

Repairs and technical modifications
Volkswagen recommends consulting a Volkswagen
dealer before purchasing accessories, spare parts
or fluids and operating media, e.g. For example, if
you want to retrofit the vehicle with accessories or if
you have to change parts. Information on legal
provisions and factory recommendations for
accessories, spare parts and operating means can
be obtained from Volkswagen dealers.
When carrying out repairs and technical
modifications, the Volkswagen guidelines must
be observed ÿ !
Any modification of the electronic components and
their software can cause functional failures. Due to
the interconnection of electronic components, these
failures can also negatively affect other systems that
are not directly affected. This means that the reliability
of the vehicle can be seriously endangered, that more
than normal wear and tear on vehicle parts can occur,
and that the vehicle's type approval can be lost.
Volkswagen recommends the exclusive use of
authorized Volkswagen accessories and Original
Volkswagen® Parts . Volkswagen has verified that
these products are reliable, safe and suitable.
Volkswagen dealers are also qualified to carry out
assembly professionally.
The Volkswagen dealer cannot be held responsible
for damage caused as a result of incorrect repairs
and technical modifications.
Despite continuously monitoring the market,
Volkswagen wagen cannot judge whether products
not authorized by Volkswagen meet the
requirements for reliability, safety and suitability for
the vehicle. For this reason, Volkswagen does not
assume any liability for these products, even if, in
certain cases, there is an authorization from an
officially recognized vehicle inspection institute or an
official body.
The Volkswagen dealer is not responsible for damage
caused as a result of incorrect repairs and technical
modifications.
These damages are also not covered by the Volkswagen
commercial warranty.
