the handling of fuel
Introduction to the topic
WARNING
The fuel tank flap is located on the right side of the
vehicle, in the rear area.
Improper handling of fuel can cause explosions,
fire, severe burns, and other injuries.
· Before refuelling, turn off the engine, ignition
and mobile phone as well as other radio
communication devices.
Identification and standards

· Before refuelling, switch off the heating in
dependent ÿ p. 130.
Note and from page 291.
· To avoid electrostatic discharges, do not climb
into the vehicle during refueling.
· Make sure that the fuel tank cap is closed
properly and that no fuel is leaking.
Observe the safety instructions
current regulations and local regulations
regarding the handling of fuels.
WARNING
If it is refueled in the wrong way, it can start a fire
and cause serious injury and damage to the vehicle.

· Refuel only fuels that have been au
twisted for the vehicle.
fuel sticker
· Do not refuel metal fuels and only use additives
authorized by Volkswagen in the authorized
dose in each case.
The type of fuel that must be refueled depends on
the motorization of the vehicle. The type of fuel
used by the vehicle is indicated on the factory fuel
label on the fuel filler flap ÿ fig. 202.
· If fuel spills, wipe it off immediately from all parts
of the vehicle.
The designation and frame indicate which fuel is
appropriate for the vehicle. These are the minimum
requirements that the fuel must meet. It is not
allowed to refuel any other fuel ÿ .
ATTENTION
The fuel it contains can be released from a
reserve drum. This can cause a fire and injury.
· Do not carry reserve drums in the vehicle.
fuel standards
The fuel to be refueled has to meet one of the
following standards. It is not allowed to refuel any
other fuel ÿ .
Fuel can pollute the environment. If any
operating fluid leaks, collect it and dispose
of it properly.
If fuel of the mentioned standards is not
available, ask a Volks wagen dealer or a
specialized workshop which of the available fuels
is suitable for the vehicle.

Gasoline
Gasoline
Note and from page 291.
Types of gasoline
The types of gasoline are differentiated by octane
number (RON/ROZ for its English and German
acronyms respectively). It is possible to refuel gasoline
with a higher octane number than what the engine
needs. However, doing so will not decrease fuel
consumption or improve engine performance.
Fig. 203 Gasoline with ethanol.
Gasoline with Ethanol. The figure indicates the
maximum percentage of ethanol present in gasoline, p.
Eg E5 means 5% maximum ethanol ÿ p. 292.
Various types of gasoline may appear on the fuel sticker,
e.g. eg, 95/92 / 97/93 RON/ROZ. The types of gasoline
highlighted in bold, 95/92 in the example, are those that
should be used preferably for the vehicle. Only if these
are not available can another type of those indicated be
refueled.
When doing so, the type of gasoline with the highest octane
rating should be refueled, e.g. e.g., 97 instead of 93.
In vehicles with a gasoline engine, use only unleaded
gasoline or gasoline containing a maximum of 10%
ethanol (E10) ÿ .

Diesel oil
The quality of the fuel influences the driving

engine. Refuel with fuel that already contains suitable
additives ÿ .

Improper refueling and the wrong gasoline additives
can cause damage to the vehicle.
· Before refuelling, check whether the standard of
fuel listed in the fuel pump meets the requirements
of the vehicle.

Use only additives approved by Volkswagen and
in the authorized dose in each case.
WARNING
· Refuel only gasoline with the octane number
(RON/ROZ) indicated or higher. If in an emergency
you have to refuel with gasoline with too low an
octane number, drive only at an intermediate speed
and do not overtax the engine. Avoid high revs and
subjecting the engine to great efforts. Refuel with
sufficient octane rating as soon as possible.
Refueling with fuel that does not comply with the
applicable standard or is authorized may reduce engine
power and cause considerable damage to the engine
and the fuel system.
· Before refueling, check whether the fuel designation
on the fuel pump meets the requirements of the
vehicle.
· Refuel only with the mentioned standard and
designation to avoid damage to the fuel system and
engine failure.
Diesel oil
Note and from page 291.
In vehicles with a diesel engine, use only diesel or
diesel with a maximum biodiesel content of 7% ÿ .

Volkswagen dealers or specialized workshops which
countries have a high sulfur content in diesel fuel.
WARNING
The quality of the fuel influences the driving

engine. Refuel with fuel that already contains suitable
additives ÿ .
If it is refueled in the wrong way, it can start a fire
and cause serious injury and damage to the vehicle.
· Before refueling, check whether the fuel standard
on the fuel pump meets the requirements of
the vehicle.
Winter diesel and filter preheat function
During the cold season of the year, a diesel with
improved fluidity for low temperatures (winter diesel)
should be used. By refueling with winter diesel,
malfunctions can be avoided. Winter diesel is offered
at service stations during the cold season of the year.
· Do not refuel solely with biodiesel or use gasoline,
fuel oil or other unsuitable fuels.
· Only use additives authorized by Volkswagen and
in the authorized dose in each case.
When temperatures are wintery, the diesel
engine can be quite noisy and the
Exhaust gases may have a bluish cast.
Depending on the climate and weather, different
cold resistance classes may be listed in the fuel
standards of the country in question ÿ p. 291.
Vehicles with a diesel engine are equipped with a
filter preheat function. This function guarantees the
fluidity of the diesel at low temperatures while driving.
Service stations in the country concerned have
information on the properties of diesel at low
temperatures.

Note and from page 291.
In order to be able to start the engine even at low
outside temperatures, Volkswagen recommends
leaving the vehicle parked in a place protected
from the weather, e.g. For example, in a garage.
Protection against incorrect refueling
The filler neck of the fuel tank of vehicles with a
diesel engine may have a protection against incorrect
refueling that only allows it to be refueled with diesel
fuel nozzles.

— Unlock the fuel filler cap with the vehicle key or
tank filler neck, first check whether you are using the
nozzle from a diesel fuel nozzle. Once you've made
sure you're using the correct gun, rotate the gun from
side to side using a little pressure. In this way the
protection can be opened and it is possible to refuel.

Introduction to the topic
The relevant components for exhaust gases reduce
polluting emissions:
If the AdBlue® expressly authorized by Volkswagen

Using the vehicle without the AdBlue® prescribed
by Volkswagen may be punishable.
If the exhaust gas cleaning system is not used as
intended, exhaust gas emissions may worsen.
WARNING
Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide, which
can cause unconsciousness and death.
