regulations and the maximum permissible speed
with them attached.
· Never drive faster than allowed when you have
mounted chains.
If there is ice or snow on the road, the chains
improve traction and braking behaviour.
The mounting of snow chains is only permitted on
the front wheels and only on the following rim
and tire combinations:
WARNING
· Remove snow chains when they are no longer
needed. Otherwise the chains will only worsen
the driving properties, damage the tires and
quickly become irreparably damaged.

Volkswagen recommends inquiring about the proper
size of wheels, tires and snow chains at one of its
dealers.
As far as possible, use fine link chains that do not
protrude more than 13.5mm including the padlock.

— In the event of a front wheel failure, mount the
spare wheel or inflatable spare wheel on the rear
axle.
— Exchange the damaged front wheel with the free
wheel on the rear axle. When doing so, take into
account the direction of rotation of the tire.

vehicle, both on the same axle, or all of them are
damaged, seek specialized help.
WARNING
Changing a wheel can be dangerous, especially
if it is done at the edge of the road. To reduce the
risk of serious injury, observe the following: · Stop
the vehicle as soon as safely possible. Place the
Wheel bolt caps
vehicle at a safe distance from road traffic to be
able to change the wheel.
· While changing the wheel, all occupants, and
especially children, should always be at a safe
distance and out of the work area.
· Switch on emergency flashers to warn other
road users.
· Make sure the ground is level and firm.
If necessary, use a wide, stable base to support
the jack.
· You should only change a wheel yourself if
you are familiar with the necessary operations.
Otherwise, request the help of specialized
personnel.
Fig. 249 Remove the caps from the wheel bolts.
The caps protect the wheel bolts and must be
pushed back in as far as they will go after changing
the wheel.
· To change a wheel, always use suitable tools
and in perfect condition.
· To reduce the risk of the vehicle rolling
accidentally, always switch off the engine,
always apply the electronic parking brake and
always place the selector lever in position P or
always engage a gear if the transmission is
manual.

Check the torque of the wheel bolts with a
perfectly working torque wrench.
— Fitting: Push the caps onto the wheel bolts as
far as they will go.
The anti-theft wheel bolt has a different cap, which
is only compatible with the anti-theft wheel bolt and
is not suitable for conventional bolts.

Introduction to the topic
Some vehicles come from the factory without a jack
or wheel brace. In this case, have the wheel replaced
by a specialized workshop.
The factory-included jack is only designed in the event
that a vehicle tire is damaged and
