– Insert new diesel fuel filter element -4- in diesel fuel filter lower
part and turn slightly to limit stop.
– Fit upper part of diesel fuel filter -1- and seal on lower part of
fuel filter and then screw in bolts approx. one turn.
Caution
Ensure correct installation position of diesel fuel filter upper
part to corresponding lower part.
– Tighten bolts in the sequence shown.
– Tighten bolts to 5 Nm torque.
Bleeding fuel system
•
There must be sufficient fuel in the tank.
– Activate fuel pump ⇒ Vehicle diagnostic tester.
– After the fuel system has been bled, start engine.
– Allow engine to run for several minutes at mid revs, then switch
engine off again.
– Read event memory and erase if necessary.
– Carry out a leakage test of the fuel system.
Note
If there is still air in the fuel system, the engine can change to
emergency running mode during road test. In this case, switch
engine off and erase fault memory. Then continue with a road test.

Air filter element: removing and instal‐
ling, 6-cylinder FSI engines
– Pull off connector -2- and loosen clip -1- using spring-type clip
pliers - VAS 6499- .
– Unscrew bolts -arrows- and remove air filter housing upper
part.
– Renew air filter element -2-.
Note
Please observe disposal instructions!
– Tighten bolts of upper part of air filter housing -1- to
1.6 ±0.2 Nm.
– Refit clamp, and push on connector until it engages.

TSI engines
– Unscrew bolts -arrows-.
– Pull vacuum hose off air filter housing.
– If necessary, pull off connector from air mass sensor.
Caution
To prevent damage to the connection and to vacuum hose, do
not use sharp-edged tools when pulling hose off.

– Remove air filter upper part and take out air filter element -1-.
Checking position of warm air flap
– Check position of warm air flap -1- in lower part of air filter. The
warm air flap must close completely at temperatures above
+12°C.
Note
The warm air flap is not installed in all vehicles.
– Clean upper part of air filter.
– Insert new air filter element and install air filter upper part.
– Tighten air filter upper part with bolts -arrows- to 1.6 Nm.
– Connect vacuum hose to air filter housing.
– If necessary, connect connector to air mass sensor.
